Smut Peddler Kickstarter is go!

Hi all!

Lee, in conjunction with Theo Lorenz and Abby Lark, fellow Black Hat Comics Collective members, have contributed a comic to this fancy smutty anthology project, allong with some really top shelf other creators. The overall project is GOREGOUS, funny, and in several places, pretty damn hot. The kickstarter is live now, so you can go get your preorder in any old time. But some of the reward tiers are limited, so you may want to avoid waiting too long.

Madame Butterfly

The last Opera of the MN Opera Season was the wonderful Madame Butterfly. It was beautiful, heartbreaking and filled with awesome vocals, just like it should be. The Black Hat Collective (and yours truly) were there to do some recording in sketch form. I decided to bring my iPad instead of the usual pen and paper–partly because I wanted to try to get the colors, and partly because I wanted a change of pace. Here are my drawings!

No post today. Try back Wed evening. But here’s something cool!

This, this is my angry face. There was a problem with the save of the latest page, and I’m going to have to spend several hours making it able to go up. There will be a page up Weds tho. I’ll re-do things after I get home from work.

BUT! I am not empty handed! A little bit ago I went to see another Comic Artists Sketch Night at the Opera. This time it was Lucia del Lammermoor, which was great! While Silent Night holds my favorite for story this season, this one was my favorite for the music, hands down, and had some really lovely spare art direction.

Here are some of my sketches from the opera:

The first half of the opera was your basic “girl pining for forbiden love” kind of deal, but the second half veered off into a more horror movie tone, as you can see sketches, and culminated in Luccia loosing her mind. The lighting design was particularly inspiring to draw- lots of big, dramatic shadows! Soon I’ll post links to some of the other artists who attended. The female lead had the most astonishing female voice I have ever heard. It  gave me absolute chills. A lot of us had trouble getting much drawn in the whole second half of the opera because of it. Every time she would sing I’d just be transfixed. All I wanted to do was listen to the opera. If you live in MN, you really should consider going to see some of the operas the Ordway puts on.

Werther!

Hello all!

Once again, myself and several other MN comic artists were fortunate enough to attend the final full dress rehersal of an opera at the Ordway. This time the show du jour was Werther. The music was amazing, and so were the costumes. The singers were fantastic. You can find posts from other Black Hatters, including Lisa, and Nicole. As always, I was there to sketch the night away. Here are a few of the results:
